Bio
Julia Spinelli trained in Music and Dance in Argentina and Brazil. She holds a degree in Curatorial Arts from the Universidad Nacional de las Artes, Buenos Aires, Argentina. She currently lives and works in the Netherlands.
Trained in Contemporary Dance, Flying Low techniques, Contact Improvisation and Dance Theatre. She studied Contemporary Performing Arts (Café Muller Club de Danza – Bs.As.). Part of a degree in Corporal Expression (U.N.A./AR). Workshops of Classical Dance by biomechanics, Modern Dance Duncan technique, Movement Analysis Technique Laban, Butoh Dance, M. Alexander Technique and Yoga; Afro-Brazilian and Contemporary Dances at the Funceb Dance School in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. She facilitates C.I. classes at the UFBA (Federal University of Dance of Salvador de Bahia), where she also organizes Jams and dance research groups. She teaches an introductory workshop to the practice of Contact Improvisation in Manaus.
She studied classical piano and popular singing with various teachers in the city of Buenos Aires. She moved to Brazil and continued her studies at the Funceb Music School in Salvador de Bahia. Since 2010 she teaches private lessons and group singing workshops, exploring the relationship between movement, body and voice. She creates and produces in Buenos Aires the first “Ciclo de Jazz Vocal” dedicated exclusively to sung jazz. She participates as a vocalist in several projects oriented to jazz and Brazilian music, performing in cultural venues in Argentina, Brazil and the Netherlands.
She participates as a performer in various stage projects and collective creations. In 2021 she creates “Piel Corteza” video and photo performance and in 2023 “Luminia” work selected to participate in the 1st Latin American Meeting of Performance Art in Berlin, Germany.
